This is a wonderful twist on Kate's background. She still cares about Neal, but she needs to become a selkie again. She needed to return to the sea, and maybe someday she will find Neal again.

Oh wow, this is great! Poor Kate, pulled between her need for her skin and her love for Neal, worn down by all the betrayals *hugs her* I like how it fits into canon so well too!

This is so gorgeous. I love how you characterize Kate -- so tough and determined -- and how this weaves in and out of canon. There is a glorious fairy-tale feeling to this one that I really like.

I love how this fits into canon, how it explains so much about what happened and why, and the final twist on the explosion. I so much feel for Kate here.
