So: half of it dates to his football-star days, when he was nicknamed "Booster" Carter. That all went south, leaving him disgraced and working as a security guard at the Space Museum. When he formulated his brilliant plot to nick shit and become a hero in the C20th, he decided to call himself "Gold Star" - hence the costume. But then:

His first act of 20th century heroism as Gold Star, true embodiment of the Eighties spirit that he is, was to rescue Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr (I KNOW) from some baddies. The rescue went as planned, and good ol' Ronnie called him up to thank him before a press conference, asking him to tell everyone the name of the new hero who walked among them. Booster, star-struck, tongue-tied, blinked a few times and managed to say "Boost- uh, Gold-at which point Reagan cut him off with "BOOSTER GOLD, everybody; your new hero ( ... )

This piece has only one commenter? How can this be? The banter is lovely and entertaining, and I can only imagine the amount of bull that Ted's secretary has heard over the years.
