Well, ex-batts are fairly unreliable with the laying anyway. They've been pushed to produce as many eggs as possible before they go into their first moult (at which point it's cheaper to slaughter and replace them than feed a bird who's temporarily stopped laying), so they're worn out by the time they're rescued, even though they theoretically have several more years in them. (Realistically, they live about a year. See above re: worn out.)
But yeah. I figure there's girlfriend, friends, colleagues...
The previous owners of my house kept chickens, and I still have this galvanized metal feed dispenser thingy knocking around in the back garden somewhere. It will need scrubbing and disinfecting, but you're welcome to it if you want it? Save you a few quid, at least.
Sign is genuinely a really good idea, because I wouldn't know - if I were on an allotment and saw it I'd be vvvvv happy that I'd learned something and had a fear/prejudice (wtf why are these very miserable-looking chickens here?) overturned. xx
