He's lying in bed. Still.

He's been in bed (occasionally getting up to use the restroom or not go insane) for the past few days. He still feels a bit weak, but, he's feeling much better than before.

Ya know. When he was dead.

*Alanna is restless. After a few hours of sitting in a back booth and watching the smaller than normal crowd, she decides to stretch her legs. Thinking back to her conversation with Sawyer, she starts to wonder if anyone has been by to check on Boone recently. She asks Bar for his room number and whistles her way up the stairs and to his door. Her knock is firm and loud.*

Boone? It's Alanna.

*Snickering, Alanna shakes her head.* Not that I wouldn't love your company, but I'll get my own drink. You just use that as fodder to tease Sawyer when his ego runs away with him, and I'll be happy. *She winks. Thinking back to something Boone said earlier, she tilts her head.* Who is Shannon?

"Fair enough."

He's not sure how to answer the question about Shannon, so he gives the usual response. "She's my sister."

Really? *Alanna's face lights up.* I didn't know you had a sibling here. I've a twin brother. He's dead... Did I tell you about him?

*She swallows and shrugs.*

I'm glad you have family. I'd like to meet her sometime.

He peers at her. "Is your brother Thom?"

"You can meet her, but, uh, she's not the friendliest of people sometimes."

He is, yes. *Alanna looks startled. Most people she speaks with don't know Thom.* Lord Thom of Trebond. We look almost identical.

*She quirks an eyebrow.* Why is that?

"I knew you looked familiar. Yeah, I've spoken to your brother. He's a bit odd."

"That's just the way Shannon is. I have a photo of her. On the dresser there." He points to a small picture from one of those street photo booths on the dresser.

*Snorting with laughter, Alanna nods.* That's one way to put it. I wonder what he told you about himself. He's frequently... misleading.

*As she talks, Alanna walks over to the dresser and studies the picture, biting her lip.*

She's very pretty. Certainly not twins though. *She looks back and forth between the picture and Boone, a slightly puzzled look on her face.*

He looks at her quizzically. "What?"

You don't look all that much alike. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just that family resemblance is hard to escape in Tortall. The Contes, the Trebonds... we all resemble our families rather intensely.

*This is perhaps the case for a reason, but we won't discuss that.*

"Well, she's my step-sister," he admits. "Our parents got married when I was ten. She was eight."

[a_lioness]

Oh! I see. *Alanna smiles, moving back to the chair and straddling it.* Our Father never remarried after our mother died. I have an adopted Father who is betrothed to my best friend and former lover's mother...

Goddess, that's tangled.

"I know what you mean about weird family arrangements. Trust me." He doesn't mention exactly how he knows. Then again, he never does.

Ah well. Family is much more than a mere blood relationship anyway. Thom and I only really had each other. *She shrugs, scuffing her foot on the floor.* Shannon... is she not friendly to everyone, or just women?

"Well, sometimes she is and sometimes she isn't. I don't know. It depends on how she's feeling that day." He shrugs.

Ah. I ask because I don't tend to get along with women. Well, Court ladies at least. *She smiles.* Living as a boy for eight years will do that to a girl. I thought it might help set her at ease is she realizes I'm not your typical female.
