I'm no art historian so I didn't know, until now, that Frida Kahlo had spinal injuries.

painting, the disabled person, conditions: injury, people: frida kahlo, the performer

her pain and health issues were the inspiration behind a lot of her art like a lot of artists. she was a fascinating woman!

Yes. It perhaps explains why self-portraits were such a big focus in her work.

Wow, how interesting! Don't you just wish you had a time machine to collect cures for her pain from the future, then to visit her in the past and fix her pain?

I learned two things today, one that she had spinal injuries, and the second that "she was the most famous female painter of all time." I must admit, I enjoy her work, and saw a wonderful showing some years back in the Museum of the Bario in NYC.

Did the 'most famous' label make sense to you? I found it a bit ridiculous. How on earth did that author measure fame? Still, I'm now thinking that I'd like to look around a gallery of Kahlo's work.

No it didn't. I think that she was more famous for being Diego Rivera's lover than for her own work, and as much as I really like his work he's not in my top 5 artists or anything.
