Doing disability differently

I like this article about reverse integration. (Does it come up on your screen from the link I've given?)

A basketball player called Danielle Peers invented the term 'reverse integration' and tells us how she's used it with athletes, students and people in general. I'm impressed.

stigma, sport, inclusion, reverse integration, ablism, people: danielle peers, disablism, stereotypes

The link works fine.

That's a really interesting article, I'd no idea Canadian wheelchair basket ball worked like that. Or that regular players would see the wheelchair game as "easy".

There's a lot of interesting stuff there about wheelchair use being binary. Although I know people who sometimes use chairs, and would never dream of shouting "faker" at someone, I guess I would still be surprised when someone stands up from their chair.

So am I, and I use a wheelchair myself! V glad you don't shout insults like 'faker' which nobody's shouted at me, but I've had a few people 'give me evils' ie dirty looks. Only a few though.

Today a new friend, who'd seen me only in my wheelchair, came to my home and remarked that phe'd never seen me walking before. So I introduced per to the term 'furniture walking' which is what I do at home. Then said yes to per kind offer to make our hot drinks, bringing mine to the table.
