Crips at Christmas are feasting or not

Dec 25, 2014 10:40

It's Christmas Day now in my time zone. I'm about to eat my usual crip-friendly breakfast but in our virtual mansion, anything goes. ( Cut for food detail )

I made pancakes with spiced toffee apple compote for my lot. I used a lot of spoons making them. But as we had our Christmas dinner yesterday I can flop in a heap of tiredness when my big girls have left to go to the inlaws for their second Christmas dinner.

I plan to eat chocolate and play with Johnny Depp all afternoon.

Chocolate at Xmas, what a weird idea (not)!

Just before my OH set off to walk to her family do, I got her to retrieve my single-malt whiskies from the cellar. Literally a cellar in this house and not easily accessible for me. She called up the names of the single-malts and surprised me by calling 'Bowmore' which is the whisky my labmates gave me on my 40th birthday. (You might have missed the email I sent round the Faculty that day, inviting everybody to bring their own glasses or mugs and sample my Bowmore. This was before Dr Cameron left our Univ but amazingly, some of my whisky survived that day.) Now that I know I've still got Bowmore I know what'll be my wee dram later today.

Meanwhile please may I have some virtual pancakes from your pan? Virtual measuring spoons are required while crip spoons have a day off.

Are you drinking it today? I am, and I don't mean virtually drinking! I put about a myth that I'm teetotal (because my disability often makes me look drunk and I don't like being teased) but oh no, I'm not really teetotal. I like a wee dram when I'm safe. Today I'm safe at home.

Just after the Queen's Speech is a good time to start on the Bowmore. After standing for the National Anthem, as I do, I heard her Majesty talk of many things including how disabled athletes competed in the Commonwealth Games. She also talked about the Scottish referendum, showing nothing of her own opinion about that, but the vote for No Independence keeps her the Queen of Scotland as well as the rest of this United Kingdom. I raise my glass.

I wobble about when I walk with my stick and when in high sugar often seem to be drunk. I rarely drink now and when I do keep it light. I have alcohol, much of it presents from previous years includong a bottle of champagne from 5 years back. So this year it's ginger beer shandies. Part alcoholic ginger beer and part non alcoholic ginger ale. And I've just finished watching Puss in Boots (the American version not the traditional British one) I can say it's the best film I've watched all holiday. :)

I made a turkey with all the trimmings. Stuffing, potatoes and homemade gravy! Homemade cranberry sauce too!

We stayed home all day and drank wine and watched TV and ate.

kittendaddy got me a bunch of Doctor Who books for Christmas, plus the Twelfth Doctor's sonic screwdriver. It opens up and lights up and makes the sound and everything!

We had a pretty amazing day!

I hope everyone else here had a terrific day too! :D
