Crips at Christmas around the tree

Dec 22, 2014 12:33

Here's a tree for our virtual Xmas party. For me it's a virtually real tree, outside in warm weather so that I can wear the shorts I put on yesterday. You can have an indoor tree if you want one, real or fake, decorated however you want it. If indoors you might, ahem, pine for virtual elves to keep the tree, ahem, spruce.

socialising, christmas

My personal tree is inside (and full of candles, without lighting the tree on fire, and colored balls), but feel free to come visit! We've got a comfy living room filled with all your favorite seating or standing arrangements, space for mobility aids and service critters and carers or not as desired, and plenty of warm blankets. Over on the side table there's mulled cider and wine, hot tea, and anything else you'd like to drink. Cats are freely available for lap sitting too. Anyone up for a relaxing and quiet game of Apples to Apples?

What's Apples to Apples?

I'm inviting two of our own who may not be well enough to get onto their computers just now: oneonthefence and nakedfaery. Either or both might choose to bring their kids. The kids, and I, might play with the service dogs when those are off-duty.

[Edit a few hours later] oneonthefence says 'you can definitely pass a message along to friendly_crips from me!' She approves words that I wrote: 'oneonthefence sends love to everybody. She's not very well so we may not see her online, but she's with us in spirit.'

Kids definitely welcome! Partners too, family-of-choice, etc.

Apples to Apples is a party game - roughly, everyone has cards with nouns on them (can be famous people or places, items like duct tape, etc) and there's a stack of cards with adjectives (e.g. slippery). For each round, one person picks an adjective card, reads it out loud, and then the rest of the players pick which noun card in their hand they think is most likely to be chosen by that particular person, then draw a new card to replace their old one. Humorous readings and explanations of the offered nouns by the 'judge' are encouraged. I find it's a good party game because it's usually not too competitive, players can leave/come in at any time (easy to sit out a round), and it's humorous.

My adjective is 'sparkly'. Who or what is sparkly? The first person to answer that can call out another adjective.

Our tree is in the corner of the 'front room' We have to remove a bookshelf from the alcove. The opposite alcove has a shelf emptied to put presents on. This year our eldest daughter and her lovely girlfriend will be with us anytime now until after breakfast on the 25th. Our younger daughter lives with us again (long term health problems means she can no longer be independent) so we have a house full.

I am nearly 3 weeks post-surgery and I'm feeling good.

Have a good time one and all.
