You need hands

Just thought I'd share my experience of my new wrist braces. They are ossur exoform wrist supports. They are replacing the salmon NHS supports that have aluminium rods in. I wear them at night as my wrists flop causing nerve compression. This causes loss of sensation which wakes me up. I also use them with my crutches and when I play the piano for ( Read more... )

those look very interesting! i too have wide hands and skinny wrists. it is SO darn hard to get wrist braces to fit with that combination!

these were the best i had found http://supports4less.com/birdcronin/wristbraces/extensor1-wristsupport.htm . the strap around the thumb is adjustable and comfortable. the whole thing velcros closed around the wrist, and can be angled in various ways to adjust for narrower wrist/wider forearm rather than just 'straight'. then another strap stretches and velcros around the skinniest part of the wrist. i mostly wear them when i crochet, now that i'm out of the highly repetitive "small parts assembly" line of work that did me in. when necessary i sleep in them as well.

i'm definitely bookmarking this new kind of brace you shared here, thanks for the heads up!

Those look interesting too. I think k good st supports need to strike a balance between being adjustable enough to provide a good fit but not have so many straps and fasteners as to make them impossible to do up with one hand.

I'd be interested to hear about any other supports people might use for wrist and other parts of the body.

yes! being wrist braces and all, you're putting them onto one hand which leaves only ONE darn hand to do it!

You might find this stuff useful for expanding/padding the rubber strap :- https://sugru.com

It takes a while to set, but you can mould it into exactly the shape you want and it's silicon based, so still fairly soft and gentle. And if you need to remove it, it'll just scrape off withan a knife.

Disclaimer - I do not work for Sugru, but hubby has bought and used a lot of it :)

They look interesting and something I could consider for my good hand which I can't rest cos it's my only functional hand. I have elbow nerve compression as well as wrist and it's possibly soft tissue shenanigans which I'm physioing (slowly) in the hope it'll clear up properly (4 years after onset and then outcome of tenosynovectomy)...

Where did you get them from? I too have a big hand and small wrist and a pair of old NHS beige ones which aren't comfortable for more than urgent "oh shit I buggered the wrist" moments and wearable for a few hours or the elbow goes instead.
