Today the sad news came that Eric Sykes has died. Like everybody who grew up in Britain, I remember his work fondly. But I had no idea that he was almost deaf and that he became almost blind.

Something I love about Sykes is that he never played the crip card. Like David Starkey, who I mentioned on this comm recently, Sykes did what he did and he became famous for being good at that thing. The same is true of Temple Grandin although she's also chosen to be famous for her disability.

I did know about his deafness but not about his sight problems. A lovely man, sad news.
