In case El Presidente (
nakedfaery) or anybody wants to know what I was doing before I retired from owning this comm, here are some of the rules I made for myself. Now that I'm Dowager Mod these rules might change as El Presidente chooses.
Membership is 'moderated' meaning that people have to apply to join. This is a precaution against bots. Anybody can join the comm if they seem to be a real person, whether or not I personally like them. If somebody were an obvious troll I wouldn't let them in but that's never happened.
After 'approving' the membership request I check the comm's membership list, to be sure the new person's there and also to give them free access to start new threads. No pre-moderation for anybody's posts.
While checking the membership list I look for any LJ account that has been deleted, and remove that from the membership list.
No 'rule' that everybody must tag their posts, but I like it when people use tags. This is to make it easier for everybody to search the comm.
If there are no tags I add some. Often I add more tags to the ones somebody chose but I never delete anybody's choice of tags.
Tags are made by 'moderators only' meaning that only El Presidente and their minions (I, now that
mrs_tribble has retired) can make new tags. This is a precaution against having multiple tags which mean the same thing (eg 'doctor' and 'doctors'). It's also to let us arrange tag names in categories, eg 'conditions: xxx' and 'people: xxx' which makes them easier to use for searching the comm.
Any comm member can ask for a new tag. I always make a tag if asked, unless there's one already. I'm careful about where the tags contain spaces, eg 'conditions:xxx' wouldn't fit neatly into an alphabetical list with 'conditions: xxx'.
That's what I'm remembering just now. May add to this.
