Title: Friends?
Fandom: Black Lagoon
Friendship: Rock and Levi
Prompt: Now a woman’s wrath is a fearful thing, and all men fear it.
Warnings: None
Rating: G
Summary: Rock thinks about the other members of the crew, and his thoughts drift to Levi in particular.

Rock wasn’t quite sure of when he had become more than an annoyance. It probably was because of something he had done. He seemed to have the ability to randomly impress his comrades every now and then like that. It was his random strokes of brilliance that saved his skin on more than one occasion. He didn’t know which one it was that had secured his position as “friend,” though. All he knew was that one day he noticed that Levi’s attitude towards him had changed.

He didn’t notice it at first because it was very difficult to tell what Levi was thinking. She was very much a violent and vulgar person. Rock noticed when that changed, though. It wasn’t that she became less violent and less vulgar. She was a woman. A woman’s wrath is a fearful thing, and all men fear it. Rock never would have made the mistake of assuming that Levi would give up her crazy ways.

Instead, he noticed that her rage and harsh words were directed at people besides him. When he had first arrived, Rock was pretty much Levi’s punching bag. He was frequently shot at, and Levi’s colorful language graced his ears every time he had made a mistake. As time went on, though, Levi’s violent outbursts happened less and less. She took out her rage on the job rather than on him.

In a way, Rock liked it. He had been bullied around at his previous job, and he had hated it. Here, though, things were different. Benny was pretty nice from day one, and Dutch was always polite, if not friendly. Levi was the last one of the group to accept him. It marked the change from “outsider” to “teammate.”

Were he and Levi friends? Rock didn’t know the answer for sure, but he had his ideas. Levi wasn’t one to easily accept people into her life, yet she had finally come to terms with Rock. It was an odd coexistence, but perhaps in their own weird way they could be called “friends.” After all, life was never easy, and people never fit into clear cut categories. Yesterday’s friend could be tomorrow’s enemy.

While he didn’t know what the next day would be like, and though anyone could become an enemy in a heartbeat, a friend of sorts certainly made things easier to face. Plus, with Levi as that friend, Rock highly doubted that anyone would try anything funny. At least, the people who knew Levi wouldn’t, and anyone else would be full of lead in three seconds flat.
