i've been pretty absent from lj for a little while. for the past few weeks i've been getting a movie storyboarded, filmed and edited for robotmedia (thanks so much to mario for his patience in coming back for filming over THREE NIGHTS-- we got him a cupcake from davis creamery and dinner at quiznos for his efforts). i've also been starting up at ( Read more... )

When my second-to-last rat died my last rat started exhibiting behavior that in a human would indicate depression. I got a hooded sweatshirt and wore it with the hood bunched up under my neck so she could cozy up to me. I think this helped her. Poor creatures, rats are not meant to be solitary. That kind of aloneness is the first thing in creation that God does not call good: he looks at Adam and says, "It is not good that he should be alone."

I'm sorry for both of you.

yeah, i take him out all the time now to cuddle. on the couch he likes to crawl all over us. it just about breaks my heart with cute when he hops into my lap. he's still skittish about being held too long, so he's just hanging out on my desk most of the time. i think he likes exploring more than anything, but i'll try the hoodie too. thanks.

they spent a great deal of their lives alone in lab cages; i can't even begin to know how they handled that. :(

Ah, I didn't know you had rescued lab rats as pets. I was just reading about how rats are really sociable and affectionate and make really good pets, which I wouldn't have thought. I'm sorry Wilson lost his buddy.

yeah, it's amazing how gentle they learned to be. they had never been handfed before so it took them a while to stop biting our fingers by mistake. but eventually they realized not to bite so hard. luckily ken caught the brunt of that learning curve himself. :P

thanks. he's hanging in there, just a lot more needy than usual.

I'm sorry. It's so hard to lose a pet, and I'm sorry that poor Wilson is so distraught. I hope that you can find him a friend.
