Freyja and Freyr and Life Today

Personally, I am not comfortable with doing things in relation to Freyja and Freyr that feel out of date to me. I get that for some folks learning dead languages, how to use ancient weapons, wearing ancient style clothing, and having rituals that use ancient things like wagons is meaningful. However, for me all of that stuff feels, well, out of ( Read more... )

I follow your train of thought. I have to admit, though *smirking* Frejya did rider her chariot beside me when I was fleeing to Houston and Freyr was running. It was a great, powerful image and suited the occasion.

I guess that's one of the things we often fail to realize - how fluid and dynamic our deities are. We don't give them nearly enough credit and I think that causes us to lose out on some of their gifts. We distance ourselves without really intending to or realizing there's no distance to start with.

My experience with sex has completely changed since I welcomed Frejya and Freyr in my life. I can't think of a time when I've not thought of them or called on them while having sex, alone or with others. I call on the for protection in my dreams. I hug them and am held close. I laugh at myself with them and let them care for me. It's so simple we thwart ourselves trying to make it more complicated.

Yes, as I said I get that what feels out of date to me is very meaningful for others. I think that it is awesome that Freyja and Freyr appeared to you as they did and that it was such a timely and powerful experience for you. I have a theory that the goddesses and gods often appear/relate to us in the way that we ourselves need them to. I really do not feel that I give Freyja and Freyr to little credit or distance myself from them. I feel very close to and continue to be amazed by both of them.

I think that what has happened with your experience of sex rocks and rolls-figuratively and literally! I too call on them and know their presence during sex. It is wonderful! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

I agree with you, except about the language. Since I am a linguist myself, I think there is something to learning dead languages. Different languages have different... powers so to speak. Like music.

Oh, I agree with you that there is something to learning dead languages and that different languages have different powers. I have nothing against learning different languages. I studied both Hebrew and Greek in seminary and found knowledge of them very helpful in studying the Christian Bible. I also found that I was able to think thoughts in those languages that I could not otherwise think. But I did not pray in Hebrew or Greek. When I tried it felt awkward because I was trying to pray in a language other than my primary language. I found it much more meaningful to pray in my primary language. After all, it's not like YHWH only speaks Hebrew. It's also not like Freyja and Freyr only speak Old Norse or Icelandic. I prefer relating to Freyja and Freyr in my primary language. Others might have different preferences and that's fine.

English is not my Mother tongue and I still feel no problem when praying in it.

I think that's great. You have some abilities that I do not have.

Yes, I think that it is important for each of us to find our own ways of relating to our goddesses and gods. For some doing the things that to me feel old and out-of-date could be very meaningful. I hope that you will fulfill your desires to learn those languages and sword dances!
