Wow, that's not an easy one to recover from.

You know, there must be lots of other ways to pass on this special gift. In addition to holding pens, you could offer it as...

a convenient desktop rose sniffer vase, the perfect gift to show there's no hard feelings for being jilted.

a coin bank.

a bottle rocket launcher.

Does it squeeze? If so, you can use it to...
remove contact lenses.
create temporary Olympics tatoos.
shoot ping pong balls.

I suggest you write to the good folks who make Star Trek and suggest they figure out a way to make it a necessary prop on their next episode, then hold a contest to see who spotted it first. Add a decorative Star Fleet decal, and this collector's item's a money maker!
