I took my accordion downtown yesterday and played a little in the street, at different spots..by the red line subway and near the protests and made 43 bucks. Will try again today in Silverlake and maybe Hollywood . I'll ask Jena if she wants to come along and sing. Having a chick singer will bring more attention ( Read more... )

Gun-ho rent-a-cops there for the sole purpose of harassing and chasing away all homeless, panhandlers, loiterers, and street entertainers. Last time I was there they had jurisdiction all along Hollywood Blvd and anywhere two blocks from, except for in front of that one huge mall outside the subway station, so a lot of people would do their thing there and the cop thing was a hit-or-miss there.

But this was some years back I was hanging out there, I don't know how it is now.

that's where we plan on going next sunday if we don't go to Occupy L.A again. We'll see how long this thing will last.. It's fun as hell..do you go there in Oakland or SF?

went back downtown and tried to make a buck or 2. I didn't make shit. Jena came with me and sung..first we went to Pershing square by the red line subway station..we stayed there about 45 minutes, playing our hearts out, but no one would give us any money. A couple of bums were hanging with us and acted like they enjoyed it, which is cool i guess. But we were right near Skid Row, on a sunday, so it was kinda dead. Then we went to the Occupy LA protest and hung out with a bunch of hippies banging on drums..they had the weed going around, and the vodka, and the whiskey..got wasted. Some Jews had a Sukkah up and we played in it..had a good time. They took videos. Then we got interviewed for the Jewish Voice, so maybe in the next issue, we'll be in there. Then we went to the 107 bar for a couple of beers, then went back home.
We had a great time overall. I just need to get me a little dolly or something to carry this heavy ass accordion in the city, because it's heavy as shit. I'm sore all over now.

Sounds fun. Yeah I wouldn't expect to make much in downtown LA, people are jaded and don't care about anything and yeah all you got when the businesses close is skid row around the corner. Maybe try Venice? Santa Monica? Long Beach?

Downtown, even during the week, kinda sucks. They're trying to gentrify it but it's still pretty rough everywhere. The most populous parts are poor immigrants or bums on skid row. We saw a couple of hipster punks walking their dog and but they just smiled at us and wouldn't come close to give us change..bastrds.
