In a nutshell...

A few scattered fandom-y thoughts for the day:

Smallville has always been ridiculous, but they hit an all-time high (or perhaps reached epic new lows) with "Beast". The conversation in the Writers Room that day must have been something along the lines of "Alright people, for one day only, Chloe Sullivan is Lana Lang. We're going to surround her ( Read more... )

But aren't you glad that you came back to it? Because the whole character aspect of the show is so amazing, even with all the Eliza attempting to be a doll, though she's getting progressively better. And Olivia is another gem that grows on me as we learn more about DeWitt -- she sold me on the ep with Dominic, because who else could she find something with, but of course there is the issue of falling further into the rabbit hole.

And then the whole Topher character is such an interesting study in how someone who is too smart and too isolated because of his genius relates. I mean he doesn't see the dolls as people, nor is he plagued by the morality of it all like Boyd, and even DeWitt to an extent.

Also, I can't wait for the good doctor to become a whole lot more interesting...

I am glad... except for the part where it's going to crash and burn. Honestly, I'm shocked that Joss continues on with Fox, knowing how they've screwed him over in the past. Buffy wasn't great out of the box. Angel was worse. Firefly actually was great from the get-go, but Fox went and royally screwed the running order and any sort of continuity and investment in the characters and ugh. Fox gave Dark Angel two seasons to get its act together, despite the heavy production price tag. Dollhouse is a much better show, and it's going to die. Oh, the suck.

But the real find is Enver Gjokaj, who is, for at least a few minutes every episode, the best thing the show has going.

Yes, this. And Dichen, too. To me, they're the strongest actors, because even though they relatively small parts, they really still the show with their performances.

5} Alan Tudyk blows my mind.

Nods.

I started watched the first 2 eps of Dollhouse and wasn't really engaged, then my sis started asking me if I was keeping up with it, telling me that it was getting better, so I caught up with it on hulu.com. It is a very engaging story. Too bad it looks like it's gonna end.

Enver is astounding. He really is. Dichen was a wonderful surprise - she underwhelmed me the first episode (all five minutes she was in) and I thought maybe she was the pretty face (and truly, it is very pretty. She's breathtaking.). But wow, has she changed my mind. I look forward to any scraps of Victor or Sierra we get, and especially scenes of them together.

Alan... There's nothing to be said about Alan, really, beyond "he's brilliant." I'd been spoiled. I knew he was Alpha. But man, he took all my expectations and blew them out of the water. I cannot wait for Friday.

I need Dollhouse icons!

Okay, saying the start didn't grab me would be an understatement. I hated it in the beginning. Haaaaated. G dragged me back - and I'm still not sure why I listened, since we are near-complete fandom opposites - and I'm so glad I went.

Topher and DeWitt... DeWitt was initially far too rigid and controlled for me. Topher squicked me big time from the get go. He was like the lovechild of Wash and a sociopathic pedophile. What changed my mind? Drugs. I keep telling Stacie, once this show is cancelled, we need to campaign for a spinoff where Topher and DeWitt are stoners, Victor and Sierra are badass and in love, and Boyd has to police them all. I would totally watch that show.
