I sent the following email out to my coworkers last week. If you would like to learn more, you can read my book
Let's Use Free Speech to Unionize Accenture and Other Companies.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings!
In the book The Servant by James R. Hunter, the CEO has enough humility to fix toilets. Unfortunately, here Accenture leadership pays us low pay for tedious mind numbing work that it refuses to roll up its sleeves to do. As Hunter noted, A humble carpenter named Jesus of Nazareth said, “For any who want to lead, I say he [or she] must be a servant first.” In other words, this humble carpenter suggested that anyone who assumes leadership better do more than their followers, not less than their followers. Accenture increases the workload of our jobs without increasing the pay, yet I have not seen a single member of Accenture ever take a call like we do. Someone told me that a previous contractor would have its supervisors take calls. It’s easy to push work onto other people without paying them more and you don’t have to do the work yourself. Accenture leadership says "no phones in the call center"; well it’s easy for them to tell us to do that when they don’t have to do our mind numbing tedious work with too little pay as people use cell phones to stimulate their minds a little. I’m sure Accenture leadership uses their cell phones whenever they want and they pay themselves more.
Did you know that unionized workers earn more than non-unionized workers by about $3.00 an hour [according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics]? We have the power (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics)! If we join together and unite in a union, we can have greater control over our pay and our work environment. Please contact me if you are interested in signing a petition form for a union election. You don’t need to even want a union to sign the form; you just need to believe we should have an election. Contractors, you can start your own union if you like.
If Accenture leadership fires you or otherwise punishes you for union activity, please immediately contact the local office of the National Labor Relations Board @ 210-472-6140.
There are more of us than there are of them so there is no reason they should pay us so little for work they themselves are too good to do. Like the Rage Against the Machine song says, “let’s take the power back!”
