I haven't seen any comments like that, but I'm not surprised. I even checked when this adaptation had been ordered out of curiosity, but it was in early 2016. When I read the book, I don't think I found it as scary, because there weren't as many parallels with the current politics in the US (and in Europe as well).

Anyway, I can't wait for episode 4.

I haven't read them myself, but this article talks about the response after Hulu released its first trailer in March. Apparently Donald Trump supporters immediately made the association with his regime themselves, labeling it “leftist propaganda” designed to turn the masses against the new president. They had to be reminded-including by Atwood herself-that the series is based on a three-decade-old novel.

I've definitely noticed that nearly every article talks about how it feels even more timely these days, which is pretty depressing when you think about it!

I hear that about a lot of series/movies, they are very busy feeling attacked by everything. Not that it doesn't happen on the pro-diversity side of things as well, Tumblr is full of people feeling attacked, sometimes for good reason, but not always.

I'm curious about this show and part of me wants to watch it, but I think that would be a bad idea. I was a mess after I read the book - it was hands-down the scariest fictional thing I've ever consumed, and that was during a day and age when there were far fewer parallels to current real-life politics.

Honestly it sounds like it might be too much for you in that case, it's very heavy-going, and some of what happens to the characters is incredibly tough to watch :(

Well... I mean, you could always wait until the whole season has aired and then watch it in your own time!

I could, but I don't think that I will have the patience to wait once I know that the episodes are out there :P
