It took me awhile to really get into it, and I still love Sarah Connor Chronicles (RIP *sniff*)more than Dollhouse. But for me, after the first few episodes is where I started to appreciate the show more and grew to really enjoy it later in the season. Ditto on your Ballard thoughts. I wanted so very much to love him, because OMG!Helo, but his storyline was rather dull and one of the weak points for me most of the time. I'm hoping they'll handle him better in S2.

Yeah when I heard he was signed as male lead and there were the promo pics with Joss, Eliza, and Tahmoh, I assumed that Tahmoh would have a fairly significant role like say being the handler for Eliza's character or something y'know. Having enough involvement in the Dollhouse to get a lot of interesting scenes

Instead he feels more like a side character at the moment, and doesn't interest me all that much. At the moment I don't see how they can integrate him into the main Dollhouse plot without having him bring down the Dollhouse which pretty much ends the show at that point. Although hopefully Joss has some interesting ideas *g*

I totally understand, and that's exactly how I felt about it up to that point. Things really pick up starting with ep. 6, though. Joss took over full control of the show starting with ep. 6, and it shows. By the end of the season, it was really pretty awesome.

Yeah I've heard some talk about it getting better so I'll definitely keep watching as the concept of the show and the Dollhouse does interest me. It's more the mission of the week plots I'm meh over a lot of the time, but then I've never been into episodic television much and missed a lot of the Buffy love for seasons 1 and 2 because the Monster Of The Week episodes weren't my thing

The show definitely picks up speed after ep 5 and 6 ...

I've heard that, so I'm hopeful for episode 6 :D

Ditto! It does get better after ep 5, hang in there, although I to was disappointed in Ballard's arc. Still, you never know what could happen next season.

I was kind of surprised because I loved him as Helo and was really excited at his casting, but he's not bringing much charisma to this role for me at the moment. He has an occasional moment of being bad-ass where I have an oooh cool reaction *g* but otherwise I find his subplots really tend to drag in pacing

It gets better, trust me. After episode 5, there's less focus on Echo's engagements, and the structure of each episode becomes more varied. More of the ensemble and the inner workings of the Dollhouse are explored. I'd definitely stick with it, especially for the final two episodes of the season, and "Epitaph One", which is one of the DVD-only episodes. They are really awesome.

Oh cool, that's what I'm looking for! The missions of the week feel so cliched, and I'd much rather see more of the Dollhouse and the regular cast interacting. It's hard for me to care about these characters that we're just introduced too for one episode I guess. (I never cared for the MotW episodes on Buffy either so much as I loved the characters and the arcs, which is probably why I prefer the later seasons). And Angel had a similar problem in season 1 with one-off guest characters being introduced that I cared nothing about, and they got past it so I'm hopeful

Yeah, I completely understand. I actually stopped watching Dollhouse after the back-up singer ep, but I tuned in for the later episodes, and was happy to see that there was a really intricate story developing. I think, especially after Firefly, that Joss has developed a talent for distilling a lot of story into a small amount of episodes (in case the show is cancelled prematurely). If you see "Epitaph One", I think you'll really understand what I'm talking about.

I'm amazed that the show was renewed for a new season, and I really hope we'll get to see more.

And seriously, Adele and Topher and Dr. Saunders (Amy Acker's character), will become the saddest characters, believe it or not. And Alpha will be the scariest and most shocking. Holy crap, you won't believe him until you see him. Really.
