I can't believe it took me so long to come across To Be Or Not To Be! It's such a great movie. I had seen the Mel Brooks version and loved it, but the original is even better. And Shirley MacLaine is so heartbreaking in The Children's Hour.
I think it was during the filming of Three Came Home that Claudette Colbert hurt her back and had to back out of All About Eve. She does some risky stunt work in the movie. It's a great movie, if you get a chance to watch it.
Bette was my first favorite actress ever. And this year I've watched so many movies with her. She was such an amazing actress! Ah, yes! I love Tallulah in Lifeboat! I think it was on my list last year. I got it for Christmas last year, if I remember correctly. I have watched it many times since. Thanks for the recommendation, though. ^_^
I saw the original first and years later watched the Mel Brooks version. I enjoyed that version a lot, but way prefer the original.
Several really cheap copies of Three Came Home on ebay, so a copy will soon be on its way to me :-) I knew Claudette had to back out of playing Margo Channing due to an injury but that was as far as my knowledge went, so I've learned something :-)
Snap! Bette was my first favourite actress as well, and I've now seen pretty much every movie she's been in.
I'll give you another rec - the original version of The Children's Hour which changed things to a heterosexual triangle and is called These Three - well worth seeing for how different it had to be due to being made in the 30's, and while I prefer The The Children's Hour, I also love These Three and if you don't know of it, it's worth trying to see :-)
Ah, that's great! And that will be my new goal in life: to watch every Bette Davis movie. I think I'm about half-way through right now. Bette was so prolific though, she must have made over a hundred movies.
I've heard of These Three! I will have to add it to my list of movies to watch. Thanks for the recommendation. :D
This is such a great list ! I just added a few of those books to my list :) Thanks a lot ! I love, love reading about other people's reading. I already love The Glass Menagerie (Tennessee Williams is my favourite playwright !), Eating Animals (or anything by Jonathan Safran Foer) and of course The Bell Jar. I added Dorothy Parker, Ken Kesey and Thornton Wilder (I've only read the Bridge of San Luis Rey) to my list ! Thanks a lot ! Have you read other plays by Arthur Miller ? I very recently discovered him with The Crucible which I found absolutely fascinating ! This play looks very good too! And I also realised I already had that Capote short story in my Collected Short Stories book but I haven't read it yet.
Me too! I love book recommendations. Actually, I picked up Eating Animals because of a review/ post you wrote about it. I came across it on a bookstore and remembered it. I would never have picked it up otherwise. I'm sort of slow and would never have guessed it was actually about eating meat. Hehe. I had been meaning to read The Bell Jar for so long, I finally did this summer. I had already read a few of Sylvia Plath's poems and was a bit scared of reading the book. I don't know why. But I think I read it at a perfect time. I thought it was great
( ... )
Oh really ? That makes me very happy then :D This is very cool to know that ! Is that the reason why you became a vegetarian by the way ?
I couldn't agree more about the moment (circumstances, mood...) being important when you read The Bell Jar ! It can be powerful and thus overwhelming.
Oh that makes me really excited for the Dorothy Parker book then ! I know she's commonly considered as great but I had never talked with anyone who had actually read her.
I read The Bridge of San Luis Rey a very long time ago but I know I thought it was really good. Very interesting. I read it at the time I had a class on South America. I have some quotes from that book written in my notebook and these are some of the best quotes I've ever collected :) You should read it ! Thank you for the recommendation :)
I love that you include things that are far behind 2010. Too many picspams with this theme have the same things. Yours is truly unique (plus I love Cuckoo's Nest more than anyone could understand <3). Great job! :)

Not heard of Three Came Home so checked it out on IMDB and will be keeping an eye out for it now :-)
Adore Bette Davis and Tallulah Bankhead ~ have you seen Tallulah in Hitchcock's Lifeboat? If not, let me give it a very strong rec! :-)
