Theresa pushes a photograph out in front of you. I can't quite see who's in it -- two or three persons, possibly family. It's faded toward sepia, but with some color there.

She says, "Your grandparents lived in troublesome times, and yet thrived in ways that are hard to understand in a land filled with stuff. Your parents grew up in troublesome times, surrounded by plenitude, and yet living with scarcity underfoot. To grow in this situation requires a bit of creative thinking, and also enough love for oneself to be able to sort out what is truly durable and important.
