Teufelsschloßes - Chapter 4

Omi blinked. “What are you talking about? I slept soundly all night.”

Ken sighed. “Of course, that’s just like you, toss and turn all night practically knock me off the bed, and you don’t even remember!” He wasn’t saying it to be mean, just pointing it out jokingly.

Omi, however, wasn’t in a teasing mood. “Whatever… I’m going out for a bit.” Opening the trailer door, the boy grabbed a light jacket, and began jogging into the park, to clear his head.

As soon as Omi was out of sight, and the fangirls had left for school, Aya called the other two members of the team into the trailer.

“Ken, tell Youji what happened three nights ago.”

The former soccer player blinked, and then turned to the lanky blond. “It was weird. I came back late, and he was just standing there, staring into nothing. He didn’t even realize I was coming up until I called out to him.”

Youji frowned. “Aya, you said it happened again?”

The redhead nodded. “Last night. He came inside to get the arrangement, and after a half hour I checked on him, to find him staring off, holding the money in his hands.” That had made him suspicious as well. The amount Omi had been paid was almost four times what the arrangement was worth. And then there was the meanings of the flowers…

“And that nightmare last night, too,” Ken reminded them. “We’ve all seen him dealing with nightmares before. He doesn’t just forget he had them the next morning.”

Youji nodded. “I don’t know about you two, but when he found out who his family was? I heard him screaming almost every night.” Youji’s apartment had been next to the boy’s back at the Koneko, putting him in the perfect position to hear him. “And he was always unsettled the next day, as much as he tried to hide it.

“Maybe he lied?”

“No,” Aya said calmly, shaking his head. “We know him too well. I believe he genuinely does not remember last night. However… Manx is coming tonight. We have a mission. What are we going to do if he spaces out again?”

“Can we just not bring him with us?”

“Ken… do you really think he’d let us get away with that?”

Another shake of the red hair. “It doesn’t matter. He could be in danger remaining here alone, as well. And until we know the mission details, we won’t know if he’ll be needed.”

The eldest sighed. Why did things have to be so complicated, while they were in such a tiny trailer?

The four young men sat on the couch, watching the micro disc that Manx had brought the night before.

“Weiß. There has been a rash of murders in this area. The victims are all elderly men, who have had their blood drained. Your mission is to find the individual or individuals responsible for this, and put a stop to it.

White Hunters, deny these Dark Beasts their tomorrow.”

“Well?” Manx asked, tossing the folder of information on the coffee table.

“I’m in,” Omi said quickly.

“Oi, Bishounen, slow down a sec. What information do we have?”

“It’s all in there,” their contact supplied. “The names and addresses of each of the victims, and the location they were found.”

“Nothing on the target?”

She shook her head. “You’ll have to find them yourself. Are you in?”

Omi nodded fiercely. Nothing was changing his mind.

“I’ll do it.” Aya.

“I’m in.” Ken.

“Sure.” Youji.

Manx nodded. “Very well. I expect results.” She left the trailer, leaving the boys to begin their research.

Omi immediately went for the folder, spreading out the information. He shivered at the photos, setting those to the side as he took the pages detailing the victims and where they were found.

“I’ll get started with this, see if I can find a pattern.”

Aya nodded. “Let us know what you find. As soon as we have any leads, we can start checking them out.”

Omi nodded in reply. “I’ll do what I can,” he said, before burying himself in the computer work.
