A Farewell to Kings

The first band I ever really got into was Rush. I was 12 or so and bought the album Moving Pictures. In one of my first bits of record collecting, I delved into their back catalog. As a kid already reading Lord of the Rings and playing AD&D, I was easily sold on songs like The Necromancer and By-Tor and the Snow Dog. My first rock concert was Rush ( Read more... )

Living in Calgary, Rush gets a lot of airplay on local radio stations. Would you be ok if I paraphrased the information in your post and forwarded it to local media?

Do they have examples of what successful petitioning looks like?

They can be the captain, I will draw the chart.

Looking at the list of 97 inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I see exactly one progressive rock band: Pink Floyd. No Jethro Tull, no Genesis (or Peter Gabriel), no King Crimson, no one else who plays in a time signature other than 4/4. So Rush's exclusion seems more indicative of the biases of the voters rather than specifically about Rush itself.

I expect they would have to acknowledge, though, that Moving Pictures is entirely made of awesome.

And if Genesis, King Crimson, or Jethro Tull had been touring and recording constantly (with the same line-up) since 1968, there might be a movement to recognize them as well.

Cutting from their wikipedia entry: "As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. These statistics place Rush fifth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Kiss and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold and platinum albums by a rock band. "

24 fucking gold records and a 40-year career isn't enough to be considered Hall of Fame material? Screw that.

Cool Post, but I don't think that Rush cares about the Hall of Fame. Madonna is in there for fucks sake! How could it be cool to be associated with a rock organization that accepts her?
