GenCon Swag

It’s just not a GenCon if I don’t bring home some new games and such. Sadly, I did not have a whole lot of time to walk the exhibit hall this show. I got in maybe two hours of browsing time across four days. I paid cash money for two games (the minis games AE Bounty and War Rocket). The rest I either traded for or was given by friends. It is good ( Read more... )

I'm very interested in hearing more about Battle of Westeros, if you get a chance to play it. For that matter, the original BattleLore game sounds interesting, but it sounds like it is out of print and too expensive to reprint.

Westeros was too expensive for me to buy on a lark, particularly as a 2-player purely competitive game gets almost no play around here on board game days. But I'm curious. :)

Both Rick and Ray want to play, so I'm pretty sure I'll have the chance. One of the things I liked about BattleLore was the simplicity of it (and other C&C games), so I'm a little concerned about the direction of BoW. We'll see how it plays though.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I was *this* close to getting it for Dawn and I to play, but I am concerned that it won't see the tabletop often enough to justify the $80.

C&C Ancients was my other thought, as it requires much less assembly, but BoW is GRRM, which we both like, so...

I do like C&C Ancients but there is actually major assembly required. The playing pieces are stickered wooden blocks and there are hundreds of them. Guess who has to do the stickering? Yeah, you do.

I have most of the GDW line, so I've got plenty of source material. I think Red Sands was made for people like me. :)

Shane came around to ask if I'd picked up my comp copy yet on Sunday because they'd sold out, which is good news for us ;-)

It does seem to be sparking interest in the game.

The new L5R is just wonderful. I played the first edition, but none of the others. The Designer Diaries on ENWorld showed what they changed, and why; people who played the other editions say that they went a long, long way to push down the power curve and provide a means of divorcing the game timeline from the card game timeline (the two used to be in synch). We've been playnig it now for several weeks and it's a really enjoyable RPG experience.
