Excalibur Keeps It in the Family

Excalibur was the first R rated movie I saw in the theater. I guess I was 11 at the time. I think my father took pity on my brother and I because there were so few decent fantasy movies movies in that era. Sure, Hawk the Slayer was fun, but I wouldn't call it good. I guess that means both Boormans are either incredibly professional or incredibly fucked up.

Remember that EXCALIBUR was made possible in part by Boorman's immediately previous film ZARDOZ, where he cast himself as the farmer getting shot in the head in the opening scenes? Clearly, its BOTH!

My favorite part of the commentary is Boorman blatantly drooling over Helen Mirren whenever she's on screen. "And again... Helen... and that wasp waist of hers..." I mean, I don't exactly blame the guy, but it's pretty funny.
