Whenever a new Harry Potter book came out, Nicole would get it right away and plow through it in a day or two. She said she felt like she had to do that before the internet ruined the book for her. It was defensive reading in a sense. Now watching practically everyone I know talking and writing about the Watchmen movie, I know how she felt. I could ( Read more... )

I'm pretty much in the same situation. Various projects have kept me more than a little busy the last few days and I won't be able to see the movie until Sunday.

Yeah, try to stay away form the Internet hyperbole on it if you can. That said, you can petty much find just about any opinion you want on the flick, from fawning adoration to outright bile. :)

I guess it all depends on where you go, really. In some cases, I've seen actor interviews where someone casually drops a MAJOR spoiler (if you hadn't read the original) which would have REALLY ticked me off if I didn't know about it. On the other hand, like righteousfist says, I've seen opinions up and down the gamut of love and hate (both among old fans and the never-read-the-book crowd). It (and its source material) really seems to polarize fan opinions, I guess.

Ultimately, I think the sturm-und-drang will quiet down soon enough. But I also think casual spoilers and discussion are going to run rampant from this point on. I generally avoid stuff about something I know I'm going to see, once we cross a certain threshold. I avoided watching a teaser video featuring a cool scene from the movie from a couple of weeks ago when I knew that I was intent on seeing it and would rather see it fresh, than in a little browser window.

If you are a fan of the original, it's worth seeing on the big screen, which is all I'm saying.

I avoided most of the internet stuff after seeing the first trailer and being satisfied they got the look right. I'm doing that more and more for movies nowadays as Hollywood seems to believe that you have to show major plot points being revealed in a trailer in order for it to be any good. Hate that.
