YOU are the one who made that incredible video that I've stalked for years and years (okay, it's only two years old but you get my point). Seriously, I've always loved it.
Anyway! Neil and Christy are *amazing*. I loved them SO much and will sit right down and watch any crappy Lifetime movie Kellie Martin is in, because I loved her in that role so much.
And isn't it weird, that Neil is seriously in like, five scenes in that 500 page book? And those are *always* the scenes I go back and watch, *especially* them dancing at Ruby's wedding.
I found another shipping meme that had some different categories than this one we did, and one category was 'best first meeting' and these two would be in the *serious* running for it.
YAY! I didn't even know there were any other Christy fans in my flist. The dance at Ruby's wedding is the best scene pretty much ever. They actually talk about SEX, and she blushes like crazy, and her head is whirling. It's so beyond fantastic, I can't even deal.
I love Kellie Martin. She was in my mom's favorite show, Life Goes On, when I was just a kid (and so was she), so I already loved her before Christy. And then she played one of my favorite literary heroines to PERFECTION. And the love was sealed. I loved her on ER, too, and had to quit watching when she died.
Also, thank you for the compliment on the video. It's not great. But considering my limited vidding ability and equipment, I'm glad I could at least tell the story. I loved the show a lot, aside from the idiocy of bringing Margaret back from the dead, because...why? Oh, that's right; it's because Christy was already crazy in love with Dr. MacNeill, because who would ever want sissy, stupid David.
You know? I really like 'old school' style videos better than the Sony Vegas and Movie Edit vids that come out today, with all kinds of special effects. I like just regular old, match-the-clip-to-the-music vids. I'm a gramma.
I loved Kellie in ER too- her and Carter were one of my very favorite 'pairings'.
All of which tells me that they *could* change Arthur & Gwen’s fate, too. Not that it’s likely, the way they go on about destiny all the bloody time.
Well, I think they ARE going to change it, but in a way that makes you happy rather than sad. That is, I think Lancelot's involvement won't be as it is in the legends, and that his part in the story will be resolved and/or forgotten by the time we get to Arthur and Gwen marrying and being the cutest king and queen of Camelot ever. (That's not to say that I think Lancelot will die. I think he'll just be a run-of-the-mill knight of the Round Table, much like Sir Leon, lol).
But, again, as long as he's at the Round Table, he's a danger to my happy-ever-aftering [/Camelot reference] couple . I guess I can live with it, as long as they don't show or even hint at a future affair. Then I can just decide that it doesn't happen.
Happily married!Arthur/Gwen are my one goal for this show. They just have the kind of relationship that leads to one, you know? If outside forces don't interfere, because together they make each other stronger.
I think the Round Table is sort of end game for this version of the legend. The show isn't really about King Arthur, after all. It's about the boy who grows into a king. So anything speculative that might happen after Gwen and Arthur are married is just that...speculative.
So I think we should stop worrying, and just enjoy the pretty while we can. :)
The Lancelot thing came in later in terms of the evolution of the legends (thanks to France, apparently). There's a distinct probability they're not going there. They've invested too much in the A/G One True Love (TM) that the only way they could get around it is through (surprise surprise) enchantment. And if they did go there, they've made a mockery of three seasons of work. I don't think (at least I hope) their writing integrity doesn't lapse so they do undo everything.
The things Wikipedia can teach us. I had never heard that about the old legends. I've read Le Morte d'Arthur, but that's the oldest account I've read, and I thought it was oldest in existence. I feel so much better now! Thank you for this!
And, yes, that's been my fear exactly. How could they do Gwen/Lancelot without destroying everything they've built for Arthur/Gwen?
Oh, Merlin and its enchantments. *rolls eyes* I actually loved the Arthur/Vivian one, because it was so freaking hilarious, and balanced nicely with the actual, real emotion involved in Arthur/Gwen. But, yeah, can we just say no more love spells on anyone ever? I would be totally okay with this.
You're welcome! And considering they FLAT OUT said it in Sweet Dreams (Gwen kissing Arthur to break the enchantment in the first place), they would...basically call themselves liars if they forced the affair sans enchantment. Maybe that's why I've had a more forgiving opinion on Lancelot--it's already been established what the OTP is in this show's canon. Besides, of all the "doom & gloom" Merlin's been told by Slash Dragon (Uther & Morgana being epitomes of evil), Slash Dragon has yet to warn Merlin against Gwen. He's had three seasons to do it; I wouldn't be able to believe Slash Dragon if he all of a sudden started pounding that particular drum. And honestly, neither would Merling because he's probably the second largest Arthur/Gwen shipper on the show being Arthur himself! lol
