in the spirit of alison's latest entry, i've decided to post my favourite all-time books (of the fiction variety). 15, in no particular order
( Read more... )
Oh, the Wayside School books are great! I always felt like they were really obscure when I was reading them way back in the day, but I have since realized that they aren't (and weren't), at all. They were so fun.
Robert Jordan and David Eddings?! I had no idea! Wonderful!
Since I refuse to fill the entire thing out, I will tell you what book I am trying to read that isn't for class.
It is Jerzy Kosinski's PASSION PLAY. It is about this polo player and his escapades- some of the sexual yes, as suggested by the front cover which shows a woman in a dress hiked up and she sits on one of those wooden face horse things with her legs spread open.
(I feel so dirty)
Anyway, the book came out of one of my teacher's piles-- he's retiring this year and brought out a stack of books and said, "Take 'em."
This author is quite crisp and... well, interesting. Good though.
oh! i could a start a whole new list just for great plays i've read. i took a modern drama class this year and was introduced to some great playwrights-- pinter and pirendello, tennessee williams and ronnie burkett. let me know how yours turns out-- maybe i should check it out.
oh, and jordan and eddings-- i didn't know it about you, either! i especially love eddings; i've read many of his creations.
greatest book of 20th century and my bible: 1 - THE WAVES by Virginia Woolf... I read this every week
other faves in no order:
2 - POINT COUNTER POINT by Aldous Huxley... best character writing of all time 3 - NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR by George Orwell... what can I say, it changed my life 4 - IN THE SKIN OF A LION by Michael Ondaatje... greatest Canadian writer 5 - THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING by Milan Kundera... the rumours are true, it's as good as they say it is 6 - FIFTH BUSINESS by Robertson Davies... no one doesn't love this 7 - STEPPENWOLF by Hermann Hesse... have you found yourself today? 8 - THE PLAGUE by Albert Camus 9 - PORNOGRAPHER'S POEM by Michael Turner... another great Canadian 10 - PILGRIM by Timothy Findley... this man took baths, actual baths
Unbearable Lightness, huh? I have to read this in preparation for an exam next week. Starting now. I'm just worried I won't "get" all of the philisophical connections. Who is this, by the way? Trev? I need a name to go with book selections. That way if I hate one of them, I only have you to blame. :)

and honestly, watership down? i never wanted it to end. the idea of a book on the lives of rabbits seems ridiculous, but it's pretty incredible.
