Jack was actually earlier out himself picking up the food for dinner and the younger Gray's birthday present, so he was home when he heard the door open. He rushes into the kitchen. "Keep him away from the counters," he says, "honey isn't good for dogs."

He goes to his wife once he's sure the puppy is happy still exploring the house. "Thank you for this," he says softly, "Gray is going to love him."

There was then a happy gasp from the door. "Puppy!" Gray came in carrying the pup carefully. He looks up with a hopeful look with Asher at his heels. The corgi was cheerfully licking the teen's cheek. "...mine?" He asks softly.

Liz smirks just a bit when Jack comes in. "Yes, I know. I have the shiny little 'caring for your new puppy' book from the shelter." She points to the booklet on the table along with the rest of the supplies she got so Gray can get to the fun part of a new pet right away. She blushes a little, then shrugs. "That dog Trevor got is good for him, I figured...this would be the same. Your brother needs someone, something that's just his. It helps." She says with more confidence than she usually has.

Then she hears the gasp and sees the boys with the dog. "What do you think? You know what day it is." Liz teases gently. Hopefully by now Gray's learned to translate Liz's brand of humor.

Jack switches to Boe so that the younger Gray doesn't have to struggle to understand what is going on. "The puppy is a birthday present to your older self, but you can play with him too if you want."

He grabs the wrapped packet from the counter and offers it to little Gray. "This is your present...happy birthday."
