Why is it that in much entertainment (movies, tv, books, plays) and possibly also in reality, parents will address a male child with his description - "son, we need to talk" - but never a female one?

I've only ever heard a daughter addressed as such when the intent was to portray some kind of scary and retrograde environment - like serial killer ( Read more... )
