I never wish to attend that church again; what's more, it's a shame that I abhor it after having only attended once. Here's the gist of what the pastor (who happened to be discussing the American Revolution in relation to God) said:

What an awful experience. I'll be honest, I was already contemplating agnosticism/atheism long before I reached 'the tipping point' (to clarify, my godlessness percolated and then some event finally poured it into a steaming hot mug of anger ;) ...but the tipping point for me was an experience like this, hinging on the words:

"It is all in god's hands."

The gist of the sermon I heard was this: We should take no political action to end the war in Iraq - we should not be perturbed by the deaths of our soldiers - because it is all in God's hands. He's got it covered.

And I think my shining moment of epiphany went something like:

"OH. How convenient." Followed by... "Wait a tic. There are a lot of... convenient things about... religion."
