There's something that's been bothering me for a while...

Have you ever noticed how often the voice-post feature on our journals tends to...malfunction? It seems like they're "accidentally" turned on at awkward moments rather frequently. Particularly on curse days ( Read more... )

wtf is going on?, autor has issues, milla, deities, research time!, it's a conspiracy!!, would you please be quiet?, fun with tropes, city stop being chaotic plz

...what if the computers are self-aware? Someone was talking to me about that just today. That they are just tools, but...what if they're not? What if they are creations getting their own minds? And so they turn on like this?

The thought has crossed my mind, I'll admit...they could even be working for the Deities! I found a book in the library a while back about a computer made to look like a human that could think for itself, so it's not that far of a stretch, if such a thing truly exists.

...how do we discover if they are working for the deities or not? The person I spoke with said they follow commands.... I don't want to command mine, though. That feels wrong.

I don't...know. It's hard to interrogate a piece of equipment when you're not even sure if it can respond or not.

...Your Highness, with all due respect...if it really is a tool, it should be following your commands. Like a puppet on a string.

You're starting to wonder? Is anything in this City truly secure?

Why do you mortals feel the need to pour your hearts out to a journal in any case?

Not when it's on the Network, I suppose.

People throughout history have wished to express themselves. It's part of being human.

There is only the false perception of security. Honestly in a place where we can be transported around on the whims of the maintainers, can we really say any place here is secure?

I express myself, just not in a journal. Everything in my network journal is public because I simply do not care.

...Not a very comforting thought, is it?

Well, good for you. I personally prefer to write anything too sensitive into a normal journal. But then it got stolen.

What's a voice post?

Like that. What we're doing right now...when you put an entry up that's a recording, instead of using text. That's a voice post.

BE QUIET! There's no need to shout!! I'm not in the computer!

((OOC: I'm not even sure what button I bumped for that.))

That's actually a good point. Though it doesn't really happen to me much. Perhaps it is because I use voice post all the time.

...Hmm. Maybe if the function isn't used much it'll turn on by itself? But what would cause that?

Well its possible right? There are many things that happen here that are not easily explained. Though I think some voice post were triggered due to pets. Which is still an accident just not as mysterious.

Not easily explained, no. But most things have some way to explain them, even if at first it sounds crazy or impossible.

Pets I can understand, but that certainly doesn't explain the curse days.

It...turns on by itself?!

((OOC: And now he has more reasons to dislike his computer. XD))

It does sometimes. It COULD just be a button being accidentally bumped, but that doesn't always appear to be the case.

It all leads back to my first impression. We are being punished!

Punished for what?
