In this story, Derek was lucky. Fiction is easy; truth is much harder. Never has anyone, in my life, ever touched my SI scars without absolutely HAVING to, like the nurses who took my pulse, like the doctor who checked if my wrist was broken, like the boyfriend who accidentally dug his fingers into my deepest scar while trying to stop me from beat the sh*t out of some guy who punched out my best friend.

yes, I agree; Morgan is very lucky in this fic, though not just because he found someone willing to gently and respectfully touch his scars (like I once did), but because he's found someone who stays (like I did not).
