An Issue With Mechacon

That's...really depressing. And one of those reminders that, yeah, we live in the South.

That said, I don't see much wrong with bringing a kid to a Con (especially a small, and rather crap, one like MechaCon), so long as you're responsible about it, and don't let the wee one take away from anyone else's time by crying or breaking things and stuff, and so long as you acknowledge that a kid's capacity to deal with the sensory overload that is a convention may not be the same as an adults.

I'm more annoyed with the idea that seeing a quick kiss between men is such an OMIGOSH TERRIBLE THING for a five-year-old.

Mechacon's an absolutely rubbish convention anyway. If it was gonna stay in Lafayette, I might've gotten a table (and not even bothered with a badge, because...really?) next year, but I don't feel like going all the way up to New Orleans for nothing but fandom for whatever three anime are currently the most popular.

I don't have a problem with good kids being there(especially since they're adorable cosplayers <3) but expecting a convention to change stuff like this when conventions are never very kid-oriented in the first place...yeah. I don't have a problem with kids at cons, just with people who expect the convention itself to change just so widdle precious won't have to see teh gay. This is one of those places where, if you're that concerned with it, you leave the kid at home. It's not a very kid-friendly place to begin with, and parents with small children aren't even close to being a large enough of a contingency for everyone else to have to please. It's definitely the anti-gay sentiment that gets me, but it's compounded by the fact that WTF it doesn't even make sense to cater to parents here! Not only is it discrimination, but its uneconomical ( ... )
