Late Winter/early Spring snows are wet, messy and a pain in the ass. They're also very pretty. The photo below is a quick snap with my phone taken on my way to work. Not that I'm doing justice to nature's handiwork, but here it is anyways:

We got slammed with 25 cm on Monday in Montreal and it's just started up here. Yeah, sure, it's pretty, but can winter be over now?

Thanks for the pic, fran. And I hope spring comes to your neighborhood very soon. It's been gradually warming up here over the past week (days in the low 50s, nights hovering around 40ish), and then this morning I came out and it's 56 freaking degrees! Amazing. It feels really good, even though the sky is overcast and I can see rain clouds on the way.

56 sounds great! We're lagging this year in temps. It's been colder than usual.

Oddly enough, all our flowers seem to be lagging behind their normal schedule. The hellebores, usually January bloomers, are still going strong. My camellia just began to bloom about a week ago. And even up at the Masonic cemetery, there are few flowers as yet... except for little violets scattered everywhere. During the occasional sun break, they completely perfume the air.

Talk of flowers seems so odd to me. We've got snow on the ground and won't see anything blooming for several weeks.

I like those little violets. They come out here on people's lawns (if you don't spray for weeds). They're sweet.
