Audio Version of When the Whistle Blows!

Dec 03, 2009 23:42

I recently spent a wonderful, whirlwind day in New York City watching When the Whistle Blows be recorded as an audio book. It was a fantastic experience!

Tim Ditlow, who brought my book to Brilliance Audio was there and it was a pleasure to finally meet him face to face.

It really was one of the most exciting things that has happened in my experience as an author!

Thank you for your kind words, both written and spoken. I could pretend that this is no big deal, just another job. But truth be told, I was just as excited as you. After reading books for the Library of Congress for 2 years, the job with Brilliance was my first truly mainstream audio publishing gig, apples and all. It is a lovely, moving book (and yes, I did cry a little as I read the end aloud, even though I had read it three times already). And listening to you speak with your relatives from West Virginia the day before was the kind of thing that makes even reading a book, a collaborative art. I only hope that in the end, I did it justice. Write another one quick! I'll bring the apples.

Thanks so much for stopping by here, Peter. I KNOW you did it justice, having heard you read part of it. Now I just can't wait to hear the whole thing! I have a feeling once the audio world hears what you did with When the Whistle Blows, there is going to be a lot of talk. You have a voice that can actually become a young boy's; and you have a range that nails adult characters as well. (I hate to blather on, but your timing too . . . ) Okay, you know I am psyched! Thank you again. Thank you, thank you.
