inferiority

well, well. i just finished the most hectic chat session i have ever had. bear in mind, i dont chat a lot or with a lot of people. here i found myself chatting with five people at once. thank gawd, it was restricted to english! anyway, one of these people was emma and get this: she speaks mandarin, english, french, spanish and is learning ( Read more... )

I don't know which is worse, that Emma speaks all those languages or that the person it's making feel inferior is YOU, who already speaks more languages than I can ever hope to...maybe June is just inferiority month. The one TINY thought I comfort myself with over my Unilingual woes is that one time when I was 11 I said to my mom, "I want to be able to speak ten languages," and she said, "Yeah, well, then you can be boring in ten languages." I guess I'd rather be interesting in "a few" (in quotes because fluency is a privilege not a right) than boring in ten. Though interesting in ten would be nice too...Whatever, I promise that when I'm living in Russia and speaking really bad russian, you have an open invite to come visit me whenever you want and pick up the lang.

believe me, inferiority frequents me way too often...like all the time? yeah, i know, its not good but i cant seem to not feel inferior.
and just so that i have said it: you are NOT boring, never were and never will be, hon. you couldnt be if you really wanted to (which you dont, right?)
so, yes, i will come and visit you in russia and we'll both attempt to learn it!
