FEMA is requesting that the media refrain from showing dead bodies on their Katrina coverage.

Any particular reason? I mean, I understand that no one wants to see corpses and all, but the reality here is that thousands have died, they are all in the floodwaters, and it will be difficult to have any news coverage of the area without at least a body in the background simply because they are everywhere. :(

I assume it's a reason similar to why we don't see dead soldiers on the news.

That's what I was thinking...the same reason why they weren't allowed to display photos of the flag-draped coffins coming back from Iraq.

You know, it's not like there is nothing to hide...we've seen the underbelly of New Orleans and humanity in more ways than one over the past week and a half.

A brief conversation I'd like to hear:

FEMA: "Please don't show the corpses."
Media: "Piss off."

I sincerely hope that the rumors of the news media discovering its spine again are true, and that such a discovery is not temporary.
