My trick for expensive books - saving my change in a big cup on my dresser. When it's full, off to Coinstar, which will give you the total amount on an AMazon gift certificate without taking out any fee. So every few months, I get a "free" expensive research book. With luck, I can find good used copies for 20-30% less than the new Amazon price. It's worked wonderfully for me.

That's a GREAT idea. I've never used coinstar and had no idea you could get an amazon card with it with NO FEE!That sounds like the way to go!

Thanks!

And Oxbow Books sells "damaged" copies for less. I'm still trying to find the damage on my copy of Woven into the Earth. It was about $15-$20 ....

Can't wait to see the handout/class!

My mind boggles that your "lust list" is that short... mine is several pages long!

My list is short because I am poor and frugal and a cheapskate.

But these are the first books that are in line to "breech the shopping defenses" i.e. "I Need to Buy it NEW NOW!" instead of waiting for it to show up in some random used bookstore for $5. And these are the books that I need to fill specific gaps.

Also, this is "just costuming" too, which although it is not a big interest, is not my primary interest.

Mind you, if ***other*** books came up, let's say at a used bookstore, I buy them because they are of a nominal cost. And then when I find more, I call friends and say "hurry up and buy x book at x store. I also found an extra copy of 20K years of fashion for a shire member for $5 once.
