About 2.30pm 19 years ago, I had a phone call from my friend Sue telling me she thought she'd seen my dad being taken away in an ambulance. I had to call mum to ask if he was home -- her response was that he wasn’t and that she was worried about him. My brother Raymond (who was off school that day) was out on his bike looking for him. You're lucky, you know. My dad lost his dad at 16 because he couldn't be revived after sucessful heart surgery in the fifties. My dad can't talk about his dad because it's too distressing for him - even though it's over forty years since he died. But it's good that you can because it means you can tell your nephews and nieces all about him. The worst thing is not knowing someone at all but knowing that you love them.

I lost my dad when I was 15. Thinking about now, yes, it's been more than half my life. He died on the 4th of July.

I hope I can write something in remembrance of him on the 4th as eloquently as you did for yours today.
