I totally agree. The only reason I think they haven't gotten together (in-universe) is their jobs.

How sad is it that BSG doesn't feel dark enough to me and needs more angst, but DA doesn't?

First, drunkenDownton...yay! And sober puppetmistress Violet, yay!
(and who was Violet smooching with, back in the day, hmm?)
And poor Carson, poor Elsie, having to do entertainment kissing for the crowd--so glad you had them able to forget themselves a little and enjoy it.
I got shivers at the Perhaps you'd care to join me in my pantry, Mrs Hughes. So much potential there! I can hear the rumble of that suggestion all the way over here.
"I prefer to think of myself as hopeful, Mr Carson. And you?"
"As of tonight -- " He pulled her closer and it was only when he kissed her that she saw he'd maneuvered them under the mistletoe once again -- "as of tonight I am the most hopeful of men."
That is a couple of heavy-duty acknowledgments of feeling, and willingness, and intent, it would seem.
Lovely!

We've seen several times in the show that the Crawleys don't think of the servants as having lives of their own (particularly not Carson), especially when a servant's private life would interfere with one of the family's whims.

While I tend to waver back and forth about whether they've gotten to the stage of execution, I've never doubted, from their first interaction, that there was feeling and willingness and intent. My only question has ever been how much they let duty and responsibility trump their feelings.

But mostly I soooo love the kiss and the UST there. Leave it to Carson to be all dignified and apologetic. I'm just glad they finally seemed to loose some control and do the right thing for themselves. Now, that mistletoe in the pantry...
