Frak! Firstly, how many people are coming to this shindig? And secondly, can I come? As it all sounds very yummy.

This isn't even for the wedding itself, aside from the arches and the religious texts. We're going to almost 20 the weekend before the wedding and almost 50 the weekend after. Since I'm not allowed to do any actual cooking on Friday night/Saturday, it all has to be made before. Damn -- forgot that I also have to scrounge several hot plates...

The wedding will be about 500 people. And if there's any chance you'd be in Israel, I'd have you join us in a second.

500 people!!!??? Am shocked right now. Is this normal for weddings there? I had 35 guests. But, of course, as my uncle liked to say, our family could hold a reunion in a telephone box it's so small. But still, 500. Wow.

I was going to say I could blend right in with 500 people but then again, with my colouring, I probably wouldn't blend in. LOL.

You never know. My family is very light, the bride's is very dark. As long as you're not green or anything...

It's a first wedding for both families, and both families have lived in small towns for many, many years, so we have a lot of friends wh are honorary aunts & uncles to the kids.

In my circles, 500 is a pretty small wedding.

Someone who actually likes honey cake? I always make it, everyone grabs one slice, and forgets about it by the next day, because it's too dense to eat more than one slice at a sitting.

The most important piece of advice anyone gave me was that there will be screwups. When you're prepared for them, it's much easier when they happen.

Darlin', there's something called a caterer! I thought the groom's family only supplied...the groom! What will have to do for your daughter's wedding? Build the temple?

fig salami

I'm intrigued...

Yemenite green schug

I read that as green slug.

lemoncello

You're going to make your own lemoncello???

quesadilla for 50

Now that's innocuous.

50 large paper airplanes

Now, that's really innocuous.

Local options are Not To Be Relied Upon, so I'm cooking. Neighbors will be making an additional 30 cakes or so.

That's the way it was in the States -- the groom's family did the FLOP (Flowers, Liquor, Orchestra, Photographer) -- but here just about everything is 50/50.

The paper airplanes are in addition to the 600 miniature ones for after the ceremony.

Actually here the groom's parents supply the groom and the grog. Yep, we have priorities.

Hi new friend :)

Wow this sounds like quite an undertaking, but I bet you have it planned out with military precision.

I make a wicked banoffee pie, if you didn't live halfway across the world i'd have sent you a couple ;)
