how am i to view by journals only now.

On the flist? I have the journals-only URL bookmarked, just add ?show=P&filter=0 to the end.

For some reason, I'm most annoyed by seeing my userhead in my tab now. IT JUST LOOKS WRONG. All these changes look wrong!

You can click on the barely-perceptible little green icon next to 'You are viewing your friends page' to access your filters.
The redesign just makes it look like an ugly deviantart ripoff. :(
