It's December, and I like December. It's not so far into winter that I'm sick of it, and people are still mostly cheerful due to either holidays, or if not the actual holidays, then the prospect of getting a few days off at the end of the month and at the very least time to sit around watching bad movies, holiday themed or otherwise. I had life plans too and then life done went and changed them all. So now, less plans more living. Like totally in the "now" (she says in her best California Surfer girl accent).
As for the fireplace. A cap on the chimney will block the smoke and back it up. Is there a damper for the flue?
It's a crying shame to have a fireplace and not be able to use it.

The chimney sweep said the cap would keep the wind from pushing the smoke back down the chimney, but still allow the smoke out. Professional opinion and all that. Since he didn't charge me for coming out, since there was nothing else wrong with the chimney, I tend to believe him. There is a damper, and it didn't help anything when we tried it.
As for life plans, these plans require planning, is all. I'm still living around them, it's just a constant thing. I'm prepared for upheaval - it wouldn't be the first time life up and changed the rules on me. :p
