This is horribly sad. I never watched Buffy although I have an idea of what was in it. Would I understand the fic?

Yes you would, though you must be prepared to find a few improbably heroic figures - some are taken from another tv series, Stargate SG-1. But be warned, the early scenes are harrowing.

You should also watch Buffy - it's one of the best TV series I have ever seen.

There must be a suitable word that properly expresses the feelings experienced after perusing a thoroughly wonderful piece of work, becoming utterly engaged, staying up to 4am to read it ... only to discover that is abandoned, incomplete, and will never ever be finished. Something I never felt before discovering fan fiction

I would still advise you to read it, especially since I think it would be very much to your taste. Ditto his other Buffyverse long fic, Kennedy The Vampire Slayer. Sadly, Life's Ending, LIfe's Beginning, ends on a cliffhanger.

Well, I read "Life's Ending, Life's Beginning" - a decent read, quite enjoyable, so thank you for the recommendation. A pity it ended on that cliffhanger. But I'm going to just go ahead and assume that Buffy survived anyway. :-)
