My view of the Charleston butchery

The photo of the killer says a lot to me. I think instinctively in terms of history. And this young man practically threw his view of history in people's faces, wearing the flags of the old racist South Africa and of Ian Smith's Rhodesia across his chest like heraldic badges ( Read more... )

the flags were photoshops. he was still a racist killer, but from what i understand a lot of the pictures going around of him aren't legit. to me the weird thing about him is how terrible his crime was and yet there still appears to be a lot of false information even though the actual crime is pretty blatantly exactly what it appears to be-- a racist killing those he deemed inferior. i have seen a bunch of pictures flying around, but it's not clear they are necessarily of this guy. the only things that are clear are that he's white, he was racist and he killed a lot of innocent people.

"There have been no attacks on churches in decades"

2008 attack on a UU church. Arguably more political than religious, shooter wanted to kill liberals and Democrats, but chose a UU church as a place to find those. Then again, this attack was to kill blacks, not Christians.

Granted these are after you wrote your post.
But it says there were a lot of black church burnings in the 1990s, as I remembered, and "The National Fire Protection Association reports that between 2007 and 2011, there were an average of 280 intentionally set fires at houses of worship in America each year"
