They may have read history, but they obviously do not understand it. It is a part of what I see in most liberals (US style) - they think that everyone else is just like them. Of course this had it down sides, if you are corrupt, evil, and or untrustworthy, you think everyone else is as well. One of the hazards of having a secular, man-made religion for your guide.
