IN the last few weeks, there have been gang murders in at least three parts where I have lived, and knew well, and felt fairly safe in - Walthamstow, Ilford and Leyton. You have my complete sympathies. Indianapolis has had a rash of murders in the last several months, and there are now some places that I will not go, even in broad daylight. It's just too rough -- and even in my neighborhood, it's getting steadily less pleasant.
