A plague on both your houses 2: Theocracy, schmeocracy

Nov 08, 2006 21:30

That the two parties today mean nothing like what I tried to describe earlier is self-evident. But where lies that difference? According to the Democrats, in the intrusion of religion in public life. ( Read more... )

Abortion is an interesting issue in the way that it was made illegal, made legal, the protests ... the whole shebang is, as far as I know, unique to American history. It's what we (Americans) should be trying our hardest to avoid with the gay marriage debate, but no. People are too impatient. They want everything resolved now. Ban it or make it unconstitutional or force all states to recognize them.

Okay, I admit that I didn't read past the first couple of paragraphs of your entry. The left doesn't care whether or not their arguments are true, they just want to appeal to their home base. And the right doesn't care about morality at all.

People are too impatient.

Cha-ching! Right on the money.

Instant gratification. It's great with video games, internet porn, fast food and get-rich-quick. Why not laws and cultural standards? (We can change'em again as quick as they fall out of favor, right?)

Just so you know, your statement about unlimited rights to abortion is infact, false. There are clear constitutionally accepted limits to that right, focusing primarily on the viability of the fetus balanced against the health and welfare of the mother.

Oh yeah? Three words: Partial-birth abortion. The US are almost the only country in the world that allows abortion for all nine months of pregnancy - even the perverts here in the United Kinkdom are legally supposed to stop at the twenty-seventh week. At any rate this article is not about abortion but about the Republican Party, and I notify you that I will not allow you to hijack its commentary. This answer concludes this thread. Any further answers will be deleted.

Or perhaps even you are still so conditioned by the brainwashing of the main media that you find it hard to understand why sexual decency and not killing babies should matter to anyone. And that is exactly the kind of situation that infuriates those who find these things important. Why not try to understand their point of view instead of insisting that it is worthless? Because the only thing you do by talking as you do is to state clearly that the refusal to allow "gay marriage" and the concern with the right of babies to be born alive are not things worth fighting for. You immediately state to someone like, yes, me, that my values are false and stupid. And you do so by assumption, without discussing the matter in the least. You may think you are bearing an olive branch, but to someone like me that olive branch looks awfully like a naked stick.

And you still are being insulting. Doesn't it occur to you that people may decide for themselves? That they may make a choice of evils? That they may decide that, even though several features of the Republican Party stink to high heaven, the Democrats are so radically opposed to things we find fundamental, that really the only choice is either to vote Republican or to stay home and damn the whole country? A choice of evils does not mean being manipulated. Quite the contrary. It means that, while you are perfectly conscious of the bad sides of your choice, you still think you have to make that choice to avoid something more fundamentally bad. Considering that most Democrat voters make similar choices, why should someone insist that Democrats are responsible adults and Republicans are manipulated children?
